The undated memoir, written during the author's later years, contains childhood impressions of life in Atlanta, Ga., between 1855 and 1867. Of particular interest is the period covering the Civil War and postwar years, during which the author's family experienced Sherman's occupation of Atlanta and economic hardships caused by the war. Other entries include Beck's accounts of two African American folk songs, of conditions in a Union prison camp, and of her brother's involvement in the movement of ex-Confederates to Mexico after the Civil War. |
